Kariega Game Reserve is an internationally renowned Big-5 private game reserve situated near Port Elizabeth, thus forming a natural extension to Cape Town and the Garden Route. Family owned and managed, it would be accurate to say that the gradual growth and development of the now expansive 10,000 hectare reserve is one of the most accomplished conservation projects in the Eastern Cape to date. Kariega’s landscape spans across five difference eco systems, resulting in extremely high game carrying capacities which results in Kariega’s game viewing and birding experience being unsurpassed in the Eastern Cape. Having two major rivers incorporated into the reserve (the Kariega and Bushmans rivers) adds enormous beauty and value, where guests enjoy stunning river cruises, canoeing and fishing on both rivers.

Luxury accommodation is offered in 5 different lodges (from 4 star to 5 star) at Kariega Game Reserve, with their newest addition being Settlers Drift, a 5-star luxury tented lodge.

Settlers Drift (5-star) is located in a remote and untouched part of the Kariega wilderness, offering a unique tented safari combined with 5-star luxury. The lodge consists of 9 spacious tented suites (each 110m²) – offering opulent bedroom and living area, full bathroom, indoor/outdoor shower and private deck. This luxuriously appointed and perfectly positioned tented lodge delivers the ultimate guest experience, with unrivalled panoramic views over valley plains. The lodge is incredibly generous and includes a restaurant, bar, lounges, library/lounge with satellite TV, wine cellar, spacious decks, outdoor fire-pit, curio shop, rim-flow pool, boma and a Sala for spa treatments.

River Lodge (4-star superior) is a unique lodge built on the banks of the Bushmans River and comprises 10 superbly appointed spacious thatched suites. Inside the Lodge guests can find a quiet spot in one of the lounges, page through a book in the library, relax at the pool or take in the magnificent views from the deck overhanging the river. Guests can also be pampered in the beautiful Sala with a range of spa treatments. Special activities include boating, canoeing, fishing and daily boat trips to the Kenton beaches.

Ukhozi Lodge (4-star superior) truly captures the romance and intimacy of Africa. Nestled in the bush you will discover 10 superbly appointed luxury suites crafted from log, each with a private plunge pool and deck offering panoramic views of the valley. The lodge boasts unique African-style lounges, restaurant and boma with an outdoor pool. Here, guests can unwind in front of warm log fires, enjoy sumptuous cuisine or simply share experiences of the African bush. Spa treatments on offer in the new Wellness Centre.

Main Lodge (4-star) offers families, friends and couples a relaxed and friendly environment to enjoy the African bush. All the log chalets are air-conditioned, with en-suite bedrooms, large private viewing decks and some with private pools. Each has a spacious lounge and living area which is great for socializing before retreating to the privacy and comfort of your bedroom. The lodge has been expertly integrated with the surrounding bush to create a natural environment where guests can enjoy traditional meals in the restaurant or boma, a drink at the bar or a quiet swim in the pool. Spa treatments on offer in the new Wellness Centre. A daily children’s programme is available.

The Homestead (4-star) is a private lodge which offers guests secluded comfort, convenience and luxury. With a dedicated game ranger and chef, guests have the flexibility to plan their day accordingly to their own specific needs. The Homestead is set in a remote and private part of the reserve. With 7 spacious bedrooms, all en-suite, a bar, swimming pool, satellite TV and spectacular views, it is the perfect lodge for the sole use of a group or family of up to 14 persons.
