Coba Ruins Day Trip from Cancun or Riviera Maya

Climb to the top of the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan peninsula and learn historical and cultural facts about the ancient community that called Coba home. For a small extra charge, you can rent bicycles and tour the famous Coba ruins by bike.
Coba is an ancient Mayan village in the state of Quintana Roo, located roughly 95 miles (170km) away from Cancun. With more than 50,000 inhabitants, Coba had economic control over the region, trading extensively with other Mayan communities in what today is Mexico, Belize and Honduras. The only access to this once commercial city was through rough stone and plaster roads, known in Mayan as sacbe.
Surrounded by two large lagoons, Coba boasts archeological wonders and is home to the tallest Mayan pyramid in the Yucatan region: the Nohoch Mul Pyramid, which rises an impressive 140 feet (42 meters) above the rainforest floor. You can climb all the way to the top and enjoy panoramic views of the miles of jungle that surrounds the archeological site.
You'll have approximately two hours of free time at the site where you can wander on your own or stick with the professional guide. Bicycles and pedicabs are available for rent (for an additional charge) to take a quick tour of the ruins on wheels! A perfect way to start your day!
The newest and most spectacular addition to Cancun, the Underwater Sculpture Museum is an under-sea sculpture gallery of more than 400 figures. The monumental underwater sculptural museum was established in the surrounding waters of Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Punta Nizuc in 2009 by British artist Jason DeCaires Taylor. The project has sparked great interest worldwide and will be an ongoing project for years to come.
The main body of the museum is called "The Silent Evolution" and consists of 400 life-size figures molded in pH neutral clay. The main goal of the museum is preservation, so the clay promotes marine growth to form a complex structure inhabited and colonized by various forms of marine life. Eventually coral reef will form on each sculpture, making them change appearance over time.
The total museum installation occupies over 1,600 sq. feet (150 sq. meters) and weighs over 120 tons, and will one day form an artificial ecosystem where various fish and marine mammals will thrive.

Evidence of habitation dates back at least 2,000 years but most sites uncovered belong to the post-Classic Period, around 1200 AD.
In the Xlapak area, you can enjoy a swim in a freshwater channel through mangroves and savanna. Your guide will identify various vegetation and birds while you enjoy a snack and soft drinks.
Then, hiking through a jungle trail, you'll discover another Mayan archaeological site before arriving at the Cenote Escondido (underground river), where snorkeling and swimming is a must! Finally, enjoy a tasty restaurant lunch before returning to your hotel.
Research is vital to ensuring adequate protection for the countless species of flora and fauna who call the reserve home.
