Obidos, Nazare, Fatima and Batalha Day Trip – Take in three of the seven Portuguesel Wonders and the Sanctuary of 'Our Lady' at Fatima. Plus, two UNESCO World Heritage sites! The tour includes lunch at the picturesque medieval fishing village of Nazar.
Heading north from Lisbon on this day trip into a bygone era, your first stop is Obidos; a fortified village of whitewashed houses and narrow streets has a distinctly medieval atmosphere and is a great place to relax and watch the world go by. At Alcobaca you will visit the famous gothic Monastery. Lunch is taken at Nazare, one of Portugal's most colourful and traditional fishing villages.
In the afternoon you will visit the wonderful Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a masterpiece in Gothic style with beautiful stained-glass windows. Finally, you will arrive at the world-famous pilgrimage site of Fatima, where 'Our Lady' appeared in 1917. You will have free time in Fatima to visit the Shrine. Just outside Fatima in Ajulstrel, you'll see the houses of the three shepherd children - Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta - to whom the vision of 'Our Lady' appeared.
Lisbon Two Hour River Cruise - See Lisbon from a different angle as you take a leisurely cruise down the Tagus River and past Lisbon's monuments scattered along the hills. One of the highlights of a Lisbon river cruise is the panoramic views of Parque das Nacoes. As with all great riverside cities, a cruise on the river is a must when visiting Lisbon.
Arraiolos and Evora – Unesco World Heritage City - This tour invites you to discover the amazing Alentejo region and two of its most important highlights: Evora and Arraiolos. Leaving Lisbon early in the morning you will cross the rolling plains of this almost unexplored region where the olive and cork oak trees are abundant and essential to the region's economy and lifestyle. The town of Evora, is an astonishingly well-preserved piece of history. With your guide you will be invited to visit the Saint Francis Church and the sinister Chapel of the Bones proving that life for some might have been just one more step towards the desired eternity. Walking up the old narrow streets you'll reach the central Giraldo Square and then onto the top of Evora and the 13th-Century Cathedral and the Roman Temple. And in one of the hidden corners of Evora lies the core of all its knowledge and perseverance: the 16th-Century University where still today hundreds of students study.
Lunch is in one of the much celebrated restaurants in Evora, you will visit the village of Arraiolos. The 'eternal bride' as it is called by locals is a splash of immaculate white washed houses on the golden plains and blue skies.
Estoril Casino - The inspiration for James Bond’s Casino Royale, Estoril is one of the classic casino’s of Europe and one of the largest. Tremendous fun in the heart of one of the most extraordinary resorts on the Lisbon coast.
Surfing - Lisbon Coast surfing has a great reputation and the glorious beaches of the Lisbon coast are a Mecca for surfers. You can learn in resorts like Praia D'El Rey and Carcavelos. There’s also excellent canoeing and fishing on rivers and lakes in the region.
Costa da Caparica - Don’t miss this 18 mile stretch of fine beaches, sand dunes, coves and lagoons.
Dear Morgan
We are just back from our trip to Quinta da Marinha and the Onyria.
Thank you for recommending and organising this excellent holiday. The place was ideal for us - we enjoyed the hotel and its facilities, visited Lisbon, Cascais, and Sintra, and I found the golf courses to be just what I hoped. The staff at the hotel and golf course were all most friendly and helpful.
We asked you to find a holiday for us with several criteria, and you came up with something that met every one.
With regards
Mr Bull
